TRACKING PRICES

Prices are set by each song. We allow two hours of drum tracking for each song. If you exceed that we charge an extra $15 dollars for every hour after that. We also offer the packages listed below in attempt to get the most bang for your buck.

Pre-Production

Everything will be set up in the studio when you get there for the scheduled session time. The more information you can give us will let us be more prepared for the session. (Some exceptions may apply.)

  1. Schedule (Get dates for):
    • A band practice or two
    • If a show is coming up soon
    • When is the recording taking place?

2. We will show up to one or more of your practices:

  • Get the Bpm
  • Write down ideas
  • Gather contact info (If not already gathered)
  • Get the feel of the band

3. We will send you a list of all the mics:

  • Which ones did you want  to use?
  • Which instrument did you want it on?

MIXING PRICES

At AM-J Studios, we are trying to give you the biggest bang for your buck. So, we have created these four groups so you can maybe save a little money.

If you want to mix everything yourself with your own gear = $0

If you want to mix everything yourself with my gear = $10/Hour

If you want our team to mix it with our gear = $20/Hour

If you want our team to mix it for you with your gear = $30/Hour

How to Pay?

You are responsible for paying half of the price of your package choice before the session starts and then pay the rest when we deliver the final product to you. So you finally got that engineer job at the studio you have always wanted to work at. Here I have gave some insight of what it’ll be like and some tips/tricks that will get you past day one.

TIME

1. Respect everyones time. This means don’t be late, have everything setup before the artist gets there, and don’t take 8 smoke breaks for an hour session. All of these things seem like a good way to milk extra money out of the artist but in reality it’s a fast track to lose business. The session should start when the artist walks in because thats when the clock starts rolling for your payment. If you’re not setup before they get there they will just sit there for the half hour it takes you to get ready. That is disrespectful. Keep in mind you’re making their dreams come true so you need a level of trust. It’s hard to get trust if one of you doesn’t respect the other.

BE CLEAN

2. This has to deal with the respect again. If you respect the space you love to work in then your clients are more likely to love it as well. A few tips would be clean up any trash or dirty dishes laying around, leave the studio as clean as you found it, and make sure to clean your pop filter every once in a while. Also make sure your personal hygiene is taken care of as well. I can’t tell you how many sessions I have been in where one dude smells unbearable bad. Keep in mind you are in small rooms with these people so make sure to use deodorant and maybe take a shower. Gum is always a great thing to have.

COMMUNICATION

3. This is probably the most important thing you can do to get what you want out of the artist. Most artist don’t want to hear about the technical stuff they just want to lay down their song and get the hell out of there. So don’t bore them with it. If you have some input or advice think about how you will tell them so you don’t bore them or seem condescending. In between each take make sure to talk to them and let them know what is going on. It could be anything but you want to keep the momentum going.

YOUR GOAL

4. Keep in mind you are doing the artist a service so don’t give them creative suggestions unless they are completely okay with it, or if it’s something like “take a few steps away from the mic”. Your job is basically to capture the best sonic and creative performance possible, nothing more. It is always good to ask if they are open to suggestions at the beginning of or maybe even before a session.

This job is not like anything else in the world but the personality traits that you must have are the same for any business.

Starting a business is guaranteed to be a thought in almost every student’s mind while in college. It is never too early to start making plans, or start building the business that they wish to pursue. In his 2nd quarter and her 5th quarter at the Institute of Production and Recording, Kody Flynn and Lindsie Heitzman started their plan for their business: AM-J Studios.

The beginning of AM-J Studios will mainly focus on one aspect of the music industry: acting as a recording studio. Kody will be Head Engineer (engineering and producing all of the clients who are with the company) while Lindsie will be the Studio Manager (dealing with the contracts, scheduling, and budgeting of the studio). As they work to get themselves more clients to be working with, they will keep the business to strictly a two-person company. Everything that needs to be done is going to be done by them for as long as they can keep it up, and afterwords they will hire people under them. When AM-J gains more recognition and makes a name for themselves as a business, they will officially establish themselves as a business through the Minneapolis Business Bureau all the while branching out into all the fields of the industry that they wish to acquire.

On top of being a recording studio, AM-J will eventually branch out to be a full-on record label (with added benefits). AM-J’s goal as a business to be an all-in-one entity for the artists it represents. Clearly, AM-J (the recording studio) will have loyal clients who record with them. If said artist is unrepresented and AM-J feels confident in pursuing this artist, the artist could also chose to/be offered to be signed under AM-J records. Within the record label side, AM-J will promote and help further the artist’s reach in their market.

AM-J starts now, and will do nothing but expand from here on out.
